My second reason was, as a former Musical Director and band leader is that a number of musicians would sign up for their first cruise ship gig and not have any idea of what was expected of them. Neither did I!! I remember walking on the gangway absolutely terrified -- not knowing if my previous working experience in small bands and dance bands back home was enough.
